Choosing Life by Monte Wilson
A dead thing can go with the stream,
but only a living thing can go against it. GK Chesterton
Do you want to live life, or just pass through this world?
The body matters: it is created by God. Spiritual health does not require one to "escape" the body or the world. Made in our creator's image, we are to give our physical self the attention appropriate to such an honor.
Life can often be rugged and demanding. It involves working with skill, diligence and fidelity in our careers, seeking to rear good children, developing a healthy and vibrant relationship with our spouses, being a good neighbor, warring against injustice in our communities, employing our gifts in serving others and spending adequate time on our own spiritual development. How do you do all of this in a God honoring manner if you are not a tough, disciplined individual?
Modern Christianity – Deeply Flawed?
Either Christianity itself is flawed, failing, untrue, or our modern, Western, commercialized, industrial-strength verson of it is in need of a fresh look, a serious revision.
Brian D. McLaren, A New Kind of Christian. Jossey-Bass, 2001 p. XV
The Goat That Changed Everything
Note: Millions of African grandmothers find themselves suddenly responsible for their grandchildren who have been orphaned by AIDS - with no means to provide for them. This is the story of one Kenyan grandmother, Ruth, and how one goat changed her life and the lives of her HIV-positive grandchildren .
The two small children were sick and alone. Their mother had just died from AIDS and they had already lost their father. Now they too were HIV-positive.
